Hit and be Hit

“Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers”.

Galatians 6:7-10

Have you ever played the “trade punches” game?  It works like this… You punch your friend in the shoulder and then he returns the favor by punching you back.  Each punch is matched with the same intensity as the other.  The object of the game is to see who taps out first.  It is a crazy game, but one that is played nonetheless by kids all around the world every day. Life is a lot like this game.  We hit others with our words and actions and they hit us back.

The proof is everywhere you look.  Every wonder why some people have more spiritual bruises than others?  Could it be that they don’t hit people hard with insults and condemnation so in turn, they are not hit back hard?  How big are your bruises?

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Stay Calm During The Fight

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus”.

Philippians 4:6-7

The Lord came to Gideon and told him he was to face the Midianites in the Eternity Fighting Championship. That’s like God picking the smallest boy out of the crowd and telling him that he has to fight the “Ultimate Fighting Champion”.

Look at it from this view… it is like telling a teen ager that they must walk away from peer pressure, telling a pastor that he must stand in front of his church and tell them that he approves of the youth going into the inner city and sharing the gospel in a strip club.  “I am not that tough, please get some one else” we stammer.  Then God reminds us that we are not alone.  He just wants to use our arms to throw the punches and our legs to kick fear out of the cage.  With this said, he helps us put on the gloves and walks us down the hall toward the cage of life.  He brings a spirit of peace.  A peace before the storm.  A peace beyond words.  He gave it to David after he stepped inside the cage with Goliath; he gave it to Saul after he was knocked down for sharing the gospel; he gave it to Jesus in the garden before is showdown with the cross.  He will give it to you.  Are you going to let him?

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

He Feels Your Pain

“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick”.

Matthew 14:14

When Matthew writes in the gospels that Jesus had compassion on the people, he is not saying that Jesus felt casual pity for them from outside the cage of life.  No, the term is far more graphic.  Matthew is saying that Jesus actually felt the pain of the punches as if he was standing in the center of the cage of life with every person.  The pain was real and just like the people he felt its sting.

He felt the leg kicks of the crippled.

He felt the triangle choke of disease.

He felt the arm bar of loneliness.

He felt the embarrassment of being knocked out in the first few seconds of the fight.

And once he felt their hurts, he couldn’t help but stand in the cage of life with them and help them fight back.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

A Champions Peace

“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace–loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere”.

James 3:17

Have you ever been in the heat of battle and felt peace?  Have you ever been faced with a situation that would normally make you turn and run but for some reason you simply had peace that could not be put into words?  I can remember a time when my family was about to loose our house because of a particularly difficult financial struggle.  When we found out the situation, my wife had such a peace about her.  I thought, wow.  How can she remain so calm during such a difficult time.  What I did not know at the time was that I was looking into the eyes of Jesus within her.  For the first time the scripture was met with power on this subject for me.  Jesus told us what he would do.

“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid” (John 14:27).

When we deny ourselves and submit our life to Jesus, he replaces our heart with his.  Jesus’ heart is peaceful.  His heart will allow us the strength to see through the problem to the opportunity.  Pray for his peace in your life today.  He is willing to give it to you.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

A Fighting Chance

“He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

Mark 5:34

Maybe you have been knocked down and feel all alone.  Your dreams seem to have been knocked out by the right hand of failure. You wonder if you will ever have a chance to get back all you have lost. You are exhausted and have nothing to give.  You feel isolated and overwhelmed with pain.

Maybe that has kept you from coming to God.  Oh, you’ve looked up from the mat and seen him. Then you saw the crowd around him.  They seemed so clean, so neat, so trim and fit in their faith.  And when you tried to speak, the noise of the crowd masked your cry. So you stayed down.

If that describes you, note carefully, one fighter who Christ commended…for having faith.  It wasn’t an undefeated champion.  It wasn’t a fighter with a seven fight-winning streak.  It was a shame-struck, winless outcast—(a fighter who had been bleeding in the center of the cage of life for years), who clutched onto her hope for victory.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Win or Loose

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.

Romans 8:38-39

We want to know the nature of God’s love… He love us when we are down on the mat struggling to get back on our feet, not just when we are on top of the world pounding away. He loves us the same when we loose seven fights in a row as he does when we win seven fights in a row.  His love is the same for us before during and after the fight.  His love never changes.

Can anything choke out the love Christ has for us?

God answered our question before we asked it.  He stepped out of heaven and into the cage of life to take it on the chin for us.  Through Christ, we are more than conquers.  We are Anointed Fighters loved by God.   He raised your hand in the air and said, “You’re the champion.”  Have you told him thank you today?

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Attitude of a Champion

“May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word”.

2 Thessalonians 2:16

Show me a fighter with a bad attitude and I will show you a fighter with more losses inside the cage of life than victories.  More fighters are knocked out during the good fight by bad attitudes than any other punch.  Why?  Because the enemy knows if he can get you to have a bad attitude before you step inside the cage, he has you beat.

God is more pleased with less talented fighters who show up to his gym with a good attitude ready to work than more talented fighters with bad attitudes.

What matters more than the punch is the attitude of the fighter throwing the punch. A bad attitude spoils our time with God. How is your attitude?

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Champion in Christ

“The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs–heirs of God and co–heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory”.

Romans 8:16-17

When we walk off the street and enter God’s gym, God not only knocks out our old sinful fighting style, he also adopts us into his family.  We are more than a number to him.  He does not look at us the way the world does when we are down for the count. Through a dramatic series of events, we go from broken fighters with no hope of victory to anointed champions in Christ.

Hear is how it happens.  You step inside the cage and begin throwing rebellion punches trying to cover up your mistakes. Because of his justice, he must choke out your sin, but because of his love, he will not make you tap.  In an act, which stunned the crowd, he stepped in the cage of life and took the triangle choke of the cross for you thus tapping out your sins.

It would be enough if God just allowed you to get out of the fight alive, but he does more, He gives you the championship in Christ.  Have you thanked him today?

Compassion of a Champion

“When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd. So he began teaching them many things”.

Mark 6:34

When Jesus is walking back to the locker room after a long fight with the powers of darkness, the crowd stops him. Keep in mind, he has just been through a slugfest with the evil one in the spiritual realm and his human body is exhausted. He needs to recover.  He longs to relax with his team.  He needs anything but another fight now.

However, his love for people knocks out his need for rest.

Many of those he healed by standing in the gap were not grateful-but he took the punches for them anyway. Most just wanted the fame that came with victory, but he raised their hand anyway.  Some of those who asked for tips to win today would punch him in the back of the head a few months later, but he healed them anyway.  He is a champion of compassion…are you?

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

God’s Training Table

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on January 22, 2010 by anointedfighter

January 22

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever”.

Psalm 23:5-6

Pause and envision the scene in God’s gym…

Driven not by our victories but by his grace, he calls all Anointed Fighters on his team to nourish themselves at his training table.  He has all the best fruit and juices to regenerate tired, beaten bodies. We take our place next to the other fighters who have both tasted victory and defeat.

Let’s look at the advantages of being an Anointed Fighter on God’s team.

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:1).

“For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins” (Colossians 1:13).

“For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father” (Romans 8:15).

“For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone” (Ephesians 2:18-20).

“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:5-6).

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade–kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:3-5).

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!
