Hand Picked

“On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Matthew 9:12-13

God didn’t look at our good fighting records and say, “I’ll die for you win you win a few more fights inside the cage of life on your own.”

No despite our knock out losses to sin, he chose to step out of heaven, into the cage of life and win the championship for us. Our championship in Christ is for eternity.  We did not earn it nor can we keep it through our own efforts.  You have been hand picked by the Father.  You are no longer left by yourself to fight alone.  Rise up and claim your victory in Christ.

You are a son of the living God and “because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir” (Galatians 4:6-7).

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Worthy

“If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

1 John 1:6-7

How do you perceive your relationship with your heavenly trainer (God)? Did you know that your effectiveness inside the cage of life depends on how you perceive your relationship with him? A fighter may have no trouble believing God’s Word when it says that we have authority to knock out sin through Christ, but where that person may have a struggle, is when they doubt their worthiness to fight with such power.

If you have a problem feeling worthy, then it is critical to understand the power of Jesus’ blood.  His ultimate sacrifice at the cross, made our relationship with the Father possible. In order to “fight the good fight of the faith” (1 Timothy 6:12), with power, you must realize your sins have been knocked out by the blood of Christ. In Jesus, you are worthy.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Counter-punch Temptation

“So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don’t fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.”

1 Corinthians 10:12-13

The first punch the enemy will throw at us during the good fight is temptation.  Satan fires this punch hard and fast in an attempt to end the fight in the first round. Sin makes us drop our hands during the fight and temptation is the feint he uses to deceive us.

How do we counter-punch temptation?

In James 4, we are told exactly how to counter the punches of temptation. In verses 7 and 8, we are told to draw near to God and resist the devil. Moreover, when we are knocked down, be quick to get back to our feet and cleanse our hands through repentance!

“Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double–minded” (James 4:7-8).

As our relationship gets stronger with our heavenly Father, we begin to understand his love for us. As we come to know how much He loves us, our love for Him will grow naturally, and our good fighting style we will begin to look like his. If we continue to draw near to God and resist the devil, he will flee.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Champion Mercy

March 7

“Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.”

Matthew 5:7

We want to receive mercy when we are stuck in the triangle choke of sin, right? Then let’s be merciful to those who have knocked us down during the fight! We want to be forgiven, sometimes of repeated failures inside the cage of life, right? Then let’s forgive those who are fighting against us.  Trust me; I know this is easier said than done.  However, if we are to be the champions in Christ God ordained us to be, we must show mercy.

“But I just cannot seem to have mercy for those who have hurt me! Now what?”   Let me ask you a question…”Do you believe that God is prepared to forgive you?” If you don’t, it will be impossible to give something that you are unable to receive. If you don’t believe in your heart what God’s Word says about His readiness and desire to forgive and be merciful towards you, then it will be very difficult to let go of what others have done to you. This is one of Satan’s favorite knock out punches.  He wants you to think God is mad at you.  Let me tell you now, God is not mad at you!  Christ took the wrath of God for your sin at the cross.

“The LORD is gracious and compassionate; slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made” (Psalm 145:8-9).  Turn to God for mercy and then return the favor to those who have hurt you.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Condemnation vs. Conviction

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 6, 2010 by anointedfighter

March 6

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.”

Romans 8:1-2

Many Anointed Fighters hear condemning thoughts during the good fight, and some even think it’s their heavenly trainer yelling at them from the corner. Let me be the first to tell you, nothing could be further from the truth! God NEVER tells you what a loser you are. Jesus said “…I did not come to judge the world, but to save it” (John 12:47).

Condemnation is a kick that comes from Satan and is meant to knock your spiritual legs out from under you. Condemnation continually punches you in the face by telling you what a failure you are, and how badly you’ve messed up. Condemnation will point out the problem and leave out the solution.

Conviction is known in the Bible as Godly sorrow. Godly sorrow is what leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). Condemnation kicks you by saying, “You are such a failure! Look at what you did!” while conviction tells you in between rounds, “Come to me… and I will forgive you!”

Conviction shows you the answer, while condemnation shows you the problem. In order for us to grasp the championship of God’s grace, we must first understand the nature of God’s forgiveness and His desire to knock out our past.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Forgive Yourself

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 5, 2010 by anointedfighter

March 5

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.

If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives.”

1 John 1:8-10

If you stand looking at yourself in a mirror and don’t like the fighter you see, then you need to forgive yourself and learn to see the champion you are in Christ. When we don’t forgive ourselves, it is like standing in the center of the cage with our hands down.  It will not be long before we are knocked out cold!

When we fail to forgive ourselves, strongholds form in our mind.  A stronghold is an incorrect thinking pattern based on lies.  In order for us to have victory inside the cage of life, we must first knock out any strongholds we have built up in our minds. If you have tapped out your sins, and taken them before the Lord, then you are forgiven… and now you need to come to realize the power of that. You need to stop associating your failures with your champion image in Christ.

If you hate yourself, and could kick yourself for past failures and choices, the enemy is setting you up for a knock out blow. The way you see yourself is not an accurate picture of what Christ has done for you. If your sins are knocked out, then you need to see yourself as separated from your sins.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Leave Negative Emotions in Your Corner

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 4, 2010 by anointedfighter

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. Be self–controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.”

1 Peter 5:7-8

We have all seen and been around people who are tense and irritable; it seems every little thing gets on their nerves.  At any moment, they could explode and start throwing punches and words around like a fighter inside the cage.  Does this describe you? What makes us like this?  It is defiantly not part of God’s design for us. The Bible tells us that “…God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self–discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).

Fighter’s who are unstable inside the cage of life, are taken to the mat by things in the past that were never knocked out.  If something is bothering us, we need to make the choice to tap out our concerns to the Lord. Feelings of bitterness, fear, hurt, rejection or abandonment, will knock out our spiritual health.

Our heavenly trainer wants us to leave our emotional buildup, hurt feelings, etc. at his feet between rounds. If we don’t, we will answer the bell and be knocked out by spirits of anger, hate, bitterness, rejection, etc.   Leave the negative buildup with the Lord, stop listening to all the reasons as to why you are upset.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Knock Out Fear

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 3, 2010 by anointedfighter

March 3

“In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the Day of Judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.”

1 John 4:17-18

Anointed Fighters should never allow the evil one to knock them out by the overhand right of fear. For those who think that fear is an unavoidable punch, they need to spend some more time sparring with God’s word.  The Bibles tells us “…the one who fears is not made perfect in love” (1 John 4:18).

Been knocked down by fear?  Get back up, seek God’s great love for you, and knock out fear.

Fear, like false guilt, is the same as a feint in the fight world. It is a result of believing something other than truth. False guilt, like a fake punch, will cause us to move out of position and be vulnerable to the enemies knock out blow.  It is when we choose to believe an imagination that has risen itself against the knowledge of God (see 2 Corinthians 10:4-5), even though God’s Word assures us that when we confess our sins, He is faithful to forgive us of any sort of unrighteousness that we’ve committed.

Feelings of low self-esteem, fear, false guilt, shame, etc. Punches and kicks along these lines are spelled out clearly in God’s Word as being unnecessary for Anointed Fighters to be hit by during the good fight.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

Counter Punch Feelings

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 2, 2010 by anointedfighter

March 2

“How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!”

Hebrews 9:14

It is important for Anointed Fighters to realize that feelings don’t always indicate truth. Just because you feel guilty, does not mean that you are. Many times, feelings merely tell us what is going on inside the cage of our mind. If the enemy can make us think we are guilty, there will be feelings of guilt because of those punches.  It’s sort of like being punched in the face; feelings are meant to help alert us to duck.

Anointed Fighters should not ignore their feelings during the good fight, but properly interpret them. For example, if you are kicked in the face by guilt, don’t start thinking “Oh, it must be true. I need to tap out and go confess my sins again.” That is letting feelings control the fight, and feelings can be (and often are) wrong.

When we begin to be taken down to the mat by guilt, we need to instead get to the root of the problem and address it with God’s Word. How does God’s Word teach us to defend the takedown of guilt? It tells us that if we confess our sin and knock it out, we are forgiven and cleansed of whatever kind of unrighteousness that we’ve committed. When we choose to believe that over how we feel, then our feelings will begin to change and we won’t be on our back trying to stop the elbows of condemnation raining down on us.

It is important to be balanced when fighting our feelings. It is not healthy to completely ignore our feelings, but I can assure you that it is not healthy to fight by our feelings either. The key is to learn how to discern what our feelings are really telling us, and then get to the root of the problem.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!

The Identity of a Champion

Posted in Cage of Life Devotional on March 1, 2010 by anointedfighter

March 1

“In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory.”

Ephesians 1:11-12

Many fighters inside the cage of life are tapped out simply because they fail to realize who they are in Christ.  Knowing who you are in Christ is the key to victory.  As an Anointed Fighter, it is important to see yourself as a champion redeemed through the blood of Jesus. Don’t believe you’re just an old forgiven sinner because some old trainer tells you so. Spend some time sparring with scripture and know the truth.  “…Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32).

Your opponent will try to knock out the truth in your life by the over hand right of deception.  If you drop your guard by not abiding in Christ, you will spend your good fighting career in bondage. If you see yourself as a failure, you will not be able to boldly exercise your champion authority in Christ because you will feel unworthy (even after the Blood of Christ has made you worthy).   Don’t make this costly mistake.  It is the same as denying the work of Christ in your life!

You are a champion in Christ loved by God, not because of what you’ve done, but because of what Jesus did on the cross.

Remember, it is called a fight for a reason.  However, we fight from victory, not for victory.  Keep Fighting!
